In America today, the fact is that a large percentage of Americans are obese and overweight. Diet companies are making tons of money and there are just too many over-the-counter diet pills and too many diets out there advocating that they are the best.

With no long term studies on diet pills and the effectiveness of a diet plan depends on the person, sometimes losing weight naturally is the best way of doing it. No need for medications, daily exercising and eating the right foods that are good for the body.

Here are a few diets that people can try, that are natural and requires no use of special pills or anything that can be deemed hazardous to one’s life.

Atkins Nutritional Approach

Also known as the Atkins Diet, this low carb diet was created by Dr. Robert Atkins back in the early 70’s. Where many diets focus on metabolic theories, the Atkins Diet believes that obesity is caused by refined carbohydrates such as sugar, flour and high-fructose corn syrup. The second is due to saturated fat and trans fats.

In this diet, there are four phases of the Atkins diet and the diet is very restrictive of what people can eat. Mostly acceptable vegetables and carbs laid out by Dr. Atkins. This diet is among the most popular diets in America and have led to the decline of carb-heavy foods such as pasta and rice and made many food and beverage companies to promote products that are low-carb.

When it comes to food, it is known that excess consumption of food has led to weight gain for majority of people and that there are some cases of weight gain due to hormone imbalances or thyroid malfunctions. But more and more people are discovering that to eliminate the weight gain and push for weight loss is due to combinations of foods and being selective of the foods we eat.

When it comes to dieting, primary food components that you tend to hear a lot when it comes to weight loss is combining fruits and vegetables for protein. Also, how beneficial it can be for people since you get a good dose of minerals and also vitamins.

By focusing on meals that consist of a good balance of proteins, carbohydrates and fats, it can be important in weight loss. But also practicing eating of foods that are properly digested through food combining. The study of food combination depends on the following:

Digestive Enzymes: Digestive enzymes are secreted in the body at different times. Different foods require different digestive secretions. So, foods with carbohydrates and acid foods should be avoided in the same meal. So, you don’t want to eat bread, rice or potatoes with fruits such as oranges, lemons, limes, pineapples because the enzyme ptyalin can be destroyed by mild acid. But eating fruits 15 to 30 minutes before a meal can be beneficial.

So, the idea is that if we eat foods not properly digested, they get stuck in our intestines which causes toxic waste, ferment and begin to putrefy and unhealthy bacteria comes into our bodies to feed off that waste. By eating foods that are properly digested, it leaves to preserve our health and possibly lead us to a longer life.

So, when it comes to weight loss food combining fruit and vegetables, its good to know that you do not want to acidic fruits with proteins. So, you do not want oranges, tomatoes, lemons, pineapples (foods known for its acidity) in combination with meat, eggs, cheese or nuts. Acidic fruits hamper protein digestion and can lead to putrefaction. Also, eating eggs with orange juice is a band combination.
