The truth is that weight loss supplements are not a necessary component to a weight loss program. In fact, there is no “magic pill” but there are ways to losing weight that are natural. And the fact that many companies have jumped on this band wagon of “natural” or “herbal” weight loss, you still have to do your research to know what pills have actually contributed to safe weight loss.

One of the popular natural weight loss pills that have been shown to work is Proactol, a newer drug that has been put through clinical studies since the summer of 2006. As the amount of fat taken in by the body decrease due to the pill’s natural ingredients which helps the body stop putting on more weight and sheds the excess fat to match a lower intake.

There are also thermogenic weight loss pills. These pills are natural and affect the nervous system by increasing thermogenesis (fat burning). You can look at these as appetite suppressants and does its job in suppressing food cravings. These natural weight loss pills are marketed under several names such as Soma-Slim.

Cons to Natural Weight Loss Pills

Of course, a lot of these are quite new and there is not much evidence showing that they can effectively lose weight. Also, because many of these herbal diet supplements are amphetamine-type stimulants, there is a possibility that they can overstimulate the nervous system.

Also some diet supplements linked to ephedra have been linked to side effects such as heart attacks, seizures and deaths.

Because a weight loss pill may be “natural”, it’s very important than you do a thorough research of safe, natural weight loss pills available and also consult your physician or dietitian before consuming them.

Other Naatural ways to lose weight

Remember there are also natural ways for weight loss and that are much safer and that is by counting calories (such as the 2,000 calorie diet). Spreading out your meals to 4-6 times throughout the day instead of 3 large meals. Also eating natural foods such as fruits and vegetables, grains, beans and staying away from unprocessed foods. Avoiding eating any foods late at night. Also, drink up to eight cups of water is important. And of course, the most natural way to lose weight is exercise that is also proven to help lead to weight loss.

But if you intend to go the route of natural weight loss pills, make sure you do your research. But know that nutrition and exercise can also lead to healthy weight loss.
