The Three-Day Detox Diet

Posted by Rebecca Garcia

Looking for a weight loss diet, there are some that preach eating the correct foods immediately and adjusting your lifestyle to eating right and daily exercise. But for some diets, its about avoiding foods that can literally lead to toxins and chemicals in one’s system.

In our body, our organs such as the kidneys, the liver and lungs are known to be important for filtering out the waste and separating, neutralizing and disposing of the toxins. But when there is an abundance of toxins accumulating in our body, it can release chemicals in the body that can mutate into cancer and/or degenerative diseases.

So, with many diets preaching to be selective of what we eat, that is definitely important because what you put in, there is no removing it. The only successful way to improving situations in the body after years of eating bad foods is simply to go on a detox program such as the three day detox diet to rid the body of its impurities.

By selecting the three day detox diet, not only are you on your way to flushing out the toxins but also renewing cells and strengthening the body’s immune system and effectively eliminating the bad toxins.

The Truth About the Protein Power Diet

Posted by Rebecca Garcia
Rebecca Garcia

There are a good number of protein-based diets available in the market. Some that are meant to be short-term such as the high protein and low carb diet, there is the Atkins Diet but another diet that has also caught in popularity is the Protein Power Diet.

The Protein Power Diet was originally created by Michael and Mary Dan Eades and the goal is to reduce carbohydrate intake in order for the body to switch over to using fat for fuel. But then slowly introducing low glycemic carbohydrates back into the diet and so you are eating more cabs than protein.

The Protein Power Diet has two primary phases for carbohydrate reduction. Each phase is designated to a person of different body weights. Phase 1 of the diet is for those that are 20% and over their ideal body weight. So, they would reduce carbohydrate intake to a maximum of 30 grams. Phase 2 is for those who are less than 20% of their ideal body weight and thus needs to reduce their carbohydrate intake by 55 grams.

Although the Protein Power Diet is often compared with the Atkins Diet, the way they determine their caloric values is the key difference. Atkins Diet has a set caloric intake while the Protein Power Diet Plan is tied to protein requirement. So, people who are active may require 1 gram of protein per pound lean body mass while 0.5 gram protein per pound lean body mass can do for those who are inactive.

But the goal of this diet is to continually count the amount of carbohydrates you take in. So, you will be tabulating carbs probably at the grocery store and at home.

You probably have seen the various commercials of people who have lost wait due to a protein shake that they take throughout the day. But many who watch these commercials of various celebrities losing all this weight…do protein shakes help you lose weight?

There is no evidence that these shakes help you lose weight but what is known is that many protein shakes are pre-made shakes full of protein derived from soy, dairy or egg-based and things with protein does have calories.

Possibly the protein shakes are used to compliment a current diet that effectively features low calories, low-fat and possibly daily exercise. Those commercials don’t exactly explain what else the person may have done to lose the weight outside of drinking a shake a few times a day.

Posted by Liz Delacruz
Liz Delacruz

We currently live in a society where obesity and being overweight will probably become an epidemic. And with so many people searching for a “magic-pill” of wanting to find pills that will just make people lose all their weight quickly is just a wearing rose colored glasses.

Lately there has been a lot of talk about the popularity of diet pills known as hoodia. Hoodia comes from a cactus-like plant that grows in semi-deserts in South Africa, Botswana, Namibia and Angola. The notion comes from claims that the San Bushmen in the Kalahari desert used hoodia for thousands of years to ward off hunger when they were warding off their hunger and thirst during long hunting trips. According to legend, by cutting of the stem of the plant, they would eat it.

In 1937, a Dutch anthropologist studying the San Bushmen noticed that they used hoodia gordonii to suppress their appetite and sure enough, studies were being done on animals which shown that many lab animals lost weight after consuming hoodia gordonii. Read the rest of this entry »

How to Lose Weight Naturally

Posted by Rebecca Garcia
Rebecca Garcia

In America today, the fact is that a large percentage of Americans are obese and overweight. Diet companies are making tons of money and there are just too many over-the-counter diet pills and too many diets out there advocating that they are the best.

With no long term studies on diet pills and the effectiveness of a diet plan depends on the person, sometimes losing weight naturally is the best way of doing it. No need for medications, daily exercising and eating the right foods that are good for the body.

Here are a few diets that people can try, that are natural and requires no use of special pills or anything that can be deemed hazardous to one’s life.

Atkins Nutritional Approach

Also known as the Atkins Diet, this low carb diet was created by Dr. Robert Atkins back in the early 70’s. Where many diets focus on metabolic theories, the Atkins Diet believes that obesity is caused by refined carbohydrates such as sugar, flour and high-fructose corn syrup. The second is due to saturated fat and trans fats.

In this diet, there are four phases of the Atkins diet and the diet is very restrictive of what people can eat. Mostly acceptable vegetables and carbs laid out by Dr. Atkins. This diet is among the most popular diets in America and have led to the decline of carb-heavy foods such as pasta and rice and made many food and beverage companies to promote products that are low-carb.

Atkins Protein Diet – The Pros & Cons

Posted by Richard Gonzales
Richard Gonzales

Many people are looking for the holy grail for weight loss. With many Americans overweight and obese, many are looking towards diet pills, supplements or popular diets that promote low carbs and protein.

Among the popular diets available is the Atkins Diet. A diet that has been estimated that nearly 25 millions of Americans are on a low carb diet during any given period. The popular Atkins Diet was created by Dr. Robert Atkins back in the early 70’s and around 2003, the diet became so widely popular that many people, many restaurants and many companies started to offer menus that were low in carbs.

The Atkins Diet believes that obesity is caused by refined carbohydrates such as sugar, flour and high-fructose corn syrup. The second is due to saturated fat and trans fats.

So, the main purpose of the Atkins Diet is to change a person’s metabolism and thus they would be able to lose weight by eating foods with high protein but limiting them with foods that are high in carbohydrates which are know to raise blood glucose levels. The diet works around ketosis, a process in which the body’s excess or stored fat (the secondary energy source for the body) is burned and thus results in weight loss.

If the body is to consume foods that are low in carbohydrates, the body will produce less insulin and look to other sources in the body for fuel and that is the fat. So, the Atkins diet does not allow refined and process carbohydrates and limits their intake to 20 grams a day in its first phase (out of total of four phases). And when the body breaks down the fat, ketones are formed and thus helps in suppressing appetite. A normal person would consume up to 300+ grams of carbs a day but a person reaches ketosis, their carbohydrate is less than 40 grams per day.

Green tea has been practiced in Asia and the Middle East for centuries. Many believe that the leaves known as Camellia Sinensis which green tea (and green tea extracts) come from has been beneficial to one’s health.

In the past, green tea was used as a stimulant, a diuretic (for urine excretion) and an astringent (to help control bleeding and healing wounds) but other reports have shown that traditionally, they have been used for aiding in digestion and also keeping people aware mentally. Rebecca Garcia

In America, with everyone looking for safe alternatives to diet pills, some have found green tea as a safe way to not only lose weight, but as a healthy beverage to replace coffee (which has organic acids that raise blood sugar and insulin and puts a lock on body fat).

For many centuries, many used green tea extracts for medicinal uses in several Asian countries. The benefits that it has brought to those cultures, people feel that not only can they drink something that benefits the body, why not lose a little weight as well. Also, green tea tastes good.
