How to Lose Weight Naturally

In America today, the fact is that a large percentage of Americans are obese and overweight. Diet companies are making tons of money and there are just too many over-the-counter diet pills and too many diets out there advocating that they are the best.

With no long term studies on diet pills and the effectiveness of a diet plan depends on the person, sometimes losing weight naturally is the best way of doing it. No need for medications, daily exercising and eating the right foods that are good for the body.

Here are a few diets that people can try, that are natural and requires no use of special pills or anything that can be deemed hazardous to one’s life.

Atkins Nutritional Approach

Also known as the Atkins Diet, this low carb diet was created by Dr. Robert Atkins back in the early 70’s. Where many diets focus on metabolic theories, the Atkins Diet believes that obesity is caused by refined carbohydrates such as sugar, flour and high-fructose corn syrup. The second is due to saturated fat and trans fats.

In this diet, there are four phases of the Atkins diet and the diet is very restrictive of what people can eat. Mostly acceptable vegetables and carbs laid out by Dr. Atkins. This diet is among the most popular diets in America and have led to the decline of carb-heavy foods such as pasta and rice and made many food and beverage companies to promote products that are low-carb.

Glycemic Impact Diet

One natural way is to eat foods suggested in a Glycemic Impact Diet which is based on the Glycemic Index (GI). Unlike the other two diets, Glycemic Impact Diet emphasizes 40% of calories from complex carbohydrates (whole grain breads, cereals and fruit), 30% of calories from lean protein from meats (fish, chicken and lean beef or pork) and 30% of calories from healthy fats (typically from nuts, fish, avocado and oils).

South Beach Diet

South Beach Diet is one of the more popular diet plans created by cardiologist Arthur Agatston that primarily focuses on the good carbohydrates and fats. This diet plan was originally developed as dieting research for his for his cardiac patients.

Agatston believed that when people consumed too much of the bad carbohydrates, such as foods that are high in the glycemic index, it would cause an insulin resistance syndrome and that the hormone known as insulin would be impaired in processing fat or sugar. And that consuming these bad fats (saturated or trans-fat) would lead to cardiovascular disease. So, the South Beach diet would prevent these negative conditions through a change in diet by incorporating good fats and carbs to the diet.

There are three phases in the South Beach Diet and the first major restrictive phase last 2 weeks by eating foods allowed in Agatston’s guideline.
These are just a few of the popular diets out there. Definitely do your research and like any diet, you want to communicate with your physician or dietitian, especially if you have been diagnosed with a condition, so you can be properly monitored.

But eating right and with daily exercise is a great way to lose weight naturally!
